The problem with this debate is people lump everything together. There's a vast difference between editing a gene to prevent Huntington’s and designing a child’s IQ. CRISPR isn’t inherently “good” or “bad” — it’s about application, oversight, and context.

That’s interesting. But who gets to decide what’s a valid use and what’s unethical? Like, where exactly should we draw the line? Isn’t that super subjective?

Exactly Jennifer. I think once you open the door, you can’t really shut it. Today it’s disease prevention, tomorrow it’s designer babies with blue eyes and violin skills.

There’s also the geopolitical angle. If one country allows full genetic enhancement and others don’t, won’t that create inequality at a biological level? The issue isn’t just ethics — it’s future-proofing fairness across societies.

The ontological implications are staggering. Once human DNA becomes an editable canvas, we are no longer discussing healing — we are contemplating reinvention. What, then, remains “natural”?

Is there even a global regulatory body that oversees this stuff? Like the UN or WHO? Or is it basically a free-for-all?

Completely agree. We can’t ignore the economic angle — access to gene editing will probably follow the same path as access to healthcare: uneven, expensive, and political.

Strongly disagree with the fearmongering. You can’t halt scientific progress because of “what if” scenarios. Ethics evolve with technology, not against it.

Omg this thread is so intense 😮😮 but so cool!! Genetic tech is here whether we like it or not — so let’s just make sure it’s inclusive, transparent, and doesn’t turn into some creepy sci-fi reality! 🚀🧬🌍💬
